About hotel Fransiskus

A unique and historic building in Stykkishólmur

Hotel Fransiskus is located right next to the harbour in the town of Stykkisholmur.

Hotel Fransiskus is a small and modern 21 room hotel with plenty of history. Built in the 1930’s by a group of Catholic sisters who came to Stykkisholmur to build a monastery, a Catholic chapel and a hospital for the whole region. This house of great story was recently converted into a hotel, it still retains a fully functioning chapel and is perfect for groups, couples or individuals for a retreat during cold winter nights or bright and sunny Icelandic summer, while exploring the beauty of the Snaefellsnes peninsula.

Location

Explore Stykkishólmur

Hotel Fransiskus is located in the prestigious town of Stykkisholmur. The town is on the northern side of the Snæfellsnes peninsula, which lies on the western part of the country, only 169 kilometres from Reykjavík Capital.

The town can best be described as a collection of old but, recently renovated, charming houses. The charm comes from the cluster of wooden warehouses, shops and homes orbiting the town’s harbour. Most dated back to 150 years giving the town a charming old and colourful look.

TRIPADVISOR

Our reviews

Rooms were clean and modern. Great location to walk to the harbour and around town. Had no problem with them providing a crib for my 3-year old. Interesting hotel attached to a hospital converted from a monastery, but still a chapel and rectory in the hotel.

Kimberly - TripAdvisor

This hotel exceeded our expectations. It has been wonderfully updated with a modern feel. The bedrooms were spacious, clean, and very quiet. Our view overlooked the harbour. The included breakfast had a good variety.

Tara - TripAdvisor

We had a stunning view from our room. Room immaculate. Staff very helpful. Met with som of the nuns who were great fun. Lovely town to walk round. Great breakfast. No problem with the hospital next door. Highly recommend staying here.

Robert J - TripAdvisor

The building has a unique history and makes for a peaceful visit. Great location next to the sea and convenient walking distance to restaurants and harbour. Friendly staff, nice clean and comfortable rooms and wonderful breakfast included.
